2016 in closing

So here we are I guess, 2017.
It’s been a pretty okay (slightly bad) year I guess, some good things happened and some bad things happened, overall I’m just glad it’s over - I don’t know why I seem to care that much about a random point in time - as if somehow one whole rotation around the Sun ending matters that much in what happens here on earth.

Anyway, I kept up last years’ New Years resolution of keeping up a blog (this one) for a whole year; honestly it was pretty fun too, I learned a lot about design, web development, bug-fixing and work-flow, as well as a bunch of handy text-editor key-bindings :)

Some very important things I’ve learned this year:

I’ve been pretty active over the year too - last year I usually just laid in bed or played something on Steam, this year though I spent a lot of time studying, learning stuff and generally just being less(ish) useless. Anyhow, I made my first ever (polished) game this year, juicy-pong, which was pretty fun, I made it over the span of 3 days or so, and I’m happy with how it came out; hopefully next year I’ll get even better and make some cooler gaymes.

Aside from juicy-pong I made a bunch of other stuff like startpages.cf, comfy-sounds and movw-space.

As well as computer-y things I’ve been trying to get better at snowboarding and balisongs;

I got my balisong taken off my by the Canadian border patrol a while back, so I should probably look into getting another one :s

Onto the good things this year, first off:

Ah yes, against all odds, against all the polls and shills it turns out that the people do actually have the capacity to think for themselves, to the dismay of the political elite.

Once again, against all the polls and unending news commentary about how Hillary will win by a landslide!!!1010!)!011, Trump pulled it out the bag - it came as a massive smack in the face to the media and all those who endlessly chortled at Trump for succeeding in what they believed to be the impossible, bravo I say.

Now onto the worse things that happened this year (before you say Harambe, no - just no.)

Pretty much self explanatory, watch this if you want more. I’m not saying they’re all bad, buuuuuut I mean all you have to do is take a cursory glance and see the collective self-destruction that’s happening, hopefully due to current political events - there will be some kind of reversal/positive change happening - enough /pol/-talk.

Analytics, I’ve been using GA to collect analytics (pageviews, sessions etc) and I find it pretty interesting to review data / changes over time. Here’s the GA from this year:

I’d say that’s pretty good for only a year and no advertising, I don’t really care about views that much really - it’s just nice to know someone out there is reading this and I’m not completely wasting my time. The >500 view spike is from when I posted a link to my work on /wg/.

Here’s a breakdown of a years worth of work on this site in 189 commits.

As this post comes to a close, I’m just gonna look back on my first post where I wrote at the end;

I also feel a bit sad this is what I spend my new years doing, happy 2016.

Now I can say I don’t feel as sad as I used to - I’ve grown and learned a lot in 2016, and 2017 only looks like it’s going to get better, hopefully I can keep up the ~ p o s i t i v e v i b e s ~ into 2018, so yeah. I hope you have a great new year. :)
